A great year for harvesting mossberries.
Observation: The mossberry (Empetrum nigurm) are traditionally used in many local recipes throughout the year. They are a rich source of antioxidants and phytonutrients. They are also eaten by the migratory bird population that comes through Izembek National Wildlife Refuge each year. Dr. Gary Ferguson, Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium
LEO Comment: This post will be shared with our partner at USGS, Jerry Hupp, Research Wildfife Biologist, who is studying the changing berry conditions in Alaska.
