Dead Silver Salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) in Kouwegoki Slough and Along Powers Creek, Among Other Locations

Observation by John Henry:

During the late afternoon on Wednesday, 07/10/19, I noticed along the Kouwegoki Slough there were these fish floating in the river upturned. Shortly thereafter, a recent resident, Dallas, made mention that he saw a similar situation along Powers Creek and other areas. The next day, the fish were in the similar state.

8/20/19 Update John Henry writes:

After conferring with some of the locals, I believe the species of fish that was in my post is the following: the coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch; Karuk: achvuun) is a species of anadromous fish in the salmon family, one of the several species of Pacific salmon. Coho salmon are also known as silver salmon or "silvers."

LEO has received several observations over the summer about salmon mortalities in rivers along the western coast, possibly related to warm water temperatures from the recent high temperatures across the state.
