Observation: Wondering if this species is native to the NWT?
Forest Management Consult: Jakub Olesinski, Forest Ecologist, writes, "Top photo looks like larvae of the cottonwood leaf beetle (Chrysomela scripta). Fairly widespread species, likely native to the NWT since its natural distribution ranges from southern US to Alaska. It has been reported feeding on cottonwood, poplar, and willow. The bottom picture is likely some kind of a rust (fungal infection) that is not related to the bug above." Source: Environment and Natural Resources, Forest Management Division. July 12, 2017
