Is this an unusual find? I was reading in the COSEWIC 2002 report that their habitat ranges between latitudes 60 degrees north and 50 degrees south in the eastern Pacific, with one of the main concentrations occurring in southern BC.

When this fish was found in 2017, I checked in with Linnea Flostrand, Pelagic Research Biologist at Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo. She confirmed the identification and also mentioned this was an unusual siting as they hadn’t been seen in the area since 2003.
