An unseasonable winter insect sighting in Newhalen.
Observation by Sonny Lamont:
Never seen a mosquito this late in the winter. Landed on car outside window. Took a picture then it flew off.

That's a non-biting midge (family Chironomidae). In any case, active adult insects in January in that part of Alaska although unusual, are more expected there (near the warmer coast) than in interior or arctic Alaska.
