Due to the low returns to spawning grounds, commercial salmon fisheries may be suspended next year

Due to declining salmon returns, Russia may halt commercial salmon fisheries next year to protect the species. This drastic reduction has raised concerns about the sustainability of the fisheries and the need for conservation measures. The situation is so dire that the salmon catch in 2021 was the lowest in the last 16 years, and projections for the 2024-2026 period suggest a continued downward trend.

При подведении итогов оказавшейся худшей за последние пять лет путины на Чукотском рыбохозяйственном совете, который состоялся 16 ноября, признали большую вероятность закрытия на следующий год промышленного вылова лососёвых. В регионе он ведётся в окрестностях окружной столицы и на территории Анадырского района. Прогнозы учёных неутешительны даже для относительно успешных в этом сезоне рыбодобытчиков Хатырки и Мейныпильгыно.
