Third consecutive Bering Sea storm touches down on Alaska's west coast

Meteorologists say the brunt of the storm is likely headed for the southern edge of the Seward Peninsula.

Rick Thoman with ACCAP writes, "This storminess is quite unusual for August in the Bering Sea, though not unprecedented, e.g. Aug 2005 severe flooding in Bristol Bay, August 1990 Nome-Council road washout. One highlight of the storminess the past week has been the wind. Both Nome and Bethel, the only places with multi-decade sub-daily wind data, have set high wind records for August (and the summer), Bethel late last week, Nome yesterday. And of course many areas have had excessive rain in both July and this morning from repeated storms. Ten separate Bering Sea storms since July 1, which is a lot for summer."
