River erosion threatening old dump site

Observation by Jeffrey Luther:

The IRR Roads gravel source pit has a bunch of debris from the old landfill. We may be shutting the access road until the issue is resolved. Locals are calling with concerns about the debris, and top of that, it's not so safe on the turn where the road is partially eroded away anyway.

In the mid 1990’s half of the old landfill was removed as a Brownfield project. Has Noatak thought about doing another Brownfield project to clean up the rest of the eroding waste? Thank you Jeff and Sarah. Sarah mentioned that this site has received some EPA Bownfields assistance in the past. Any documents not attached to that link can be requested from the listed DEC Project Officer.

With that, I can say the question of whether an eroding site can be eligible as a brownfiled site is still being addressed. The initial viewpoint from the EPA is that the site can not be a brownfield If there is no reuse possible, what can the community do with land that is eroding? I will inquire with EPA Region 10 and post the response here when it is received.
