Observation: Typically the first harvest of hay occurs in early July. Because of the warm weather this year, the first hay harvest was cut 3 to 4 weeks early across much of the Palmer/Wasilla area. A follow-up 2nd cutting in some hayfields has occurred on or around July 8th.

State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Alaska Forage Manual: "The Alaska Forage Manual was created through a joint agreement between the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Alaska Plant Materials Center (PMC). The project was designed to synthesize and build upon existing information about forage crops in Alaska. A wealth of knowledge from many different sources has been compiled in this publication to serve present and future managers of livestock and wildlife operations, as well as local agencies."
