So Many Pinks (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha)!

Observation: This is an unprecedented pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) return. I am 70 and have been commercial fishing my entire life. I have never seen so many pink salmon before. Last year we had a failure in our pink salmon commercial season. This year, there are so many that there is not enough water in the streams to hold them and many are dying before they can spawn. This is not because of low water but rather too many fish. The bears are so fat and happy they were just lying on the stream banks and don't even want to move. The bad news is that the processors had so many pinks they cut the price by more than half. Last year we were getting about 45 cents a pound. This year we are getting 20 cents a pound. Finally, they just closed and would not buy anymore. I don't know where all of these pink salmon came from. It is amazing.
