Professor Starzomski Tweeted that the Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) is "super rare here." Indeed, this may be the only C. cristata individual sighted on Vancouver Island that has been recorded on iNaturalist. The two other recorded iNat sightings of a Blue Jay on Vancouver Island were also on the UVic campus within four days after the present observation, including one of a Blue Jay eating Garry Oak (Quercus garryana) acorns by Professor Starzomski on 4 November. A small number of Blue Jay sightings on Vancouver Island have been recorded on the eBird database.
