Marine Tar (Oil Residue) On Beaches

Recently there has been oil residues (tar balls) found along the shorelines in Goa. This has left a negative impact on the tourism. Many tourists are unhappy with this site. As per the study Dhargalkar et al. 1977 it has been observed that the oil residues are discharged from ballast tanks of oil tankers, which are enroute from gulf countries to other countries from southeast Asia sailing through Arabian sea. The western coast line of India is prone to oil pollution. Deposition is heaviest during early monsoons or monsoons months, due to dominating circulation patterns after the monsoons, the patterns inverts, hence producing the tar depositions Rekadwad and Khobragade, 2015 (NIO Goa India).
