Invasive Elodea in Harding Lake

Elodea was first observed in Harding Lake in 2020 growing in isolated patches and has since been assessed and managed by the Fairbanks Soil and Water Conservation District and its partners. Elodea is considered an invasive and noxious weed in the state of Alaska. It was first introduced to Interior Alaska in 2010 when an aquarium was dumped in the North Pole area and has since spread to local waterbodies via boats, fishing equipment, and even float planes.
