Observation by Beverly Churchill:
I have wild roses on my property. I think they are Sitka Roses, you see them growing wild all over Southcentral Alaska. I noticed a red rust growing on my roses. I tried spraying it with a homemade spray to no avail. I tried cutting back the infected branches, to no avail. As I was camping around Southcentral, I noticed the same rust on these same type roses. I did not notice it on any other variety, ones that are typically planted in gardens and parks. I also noticed that these same wild roses are very prone to take over by the pea vetch that is spreading all along the highways and roadways. My unprofessional opinion is that climate change is affecting these endemic roses and that they are in peril. I had taken some pictures but I can't find them now. I plan to completely cut down these roses on my property rather than watch them being destroyed by this fungus.
